Repair – wobbly handles on silver handled knives

A new experience for me.  I had an enquiry  to see if I could fix wobbly handles on a set of knives of sentimental value.  We agreed I should attempt two to start.  Below is the stainless steel blade extracted from the handle with a lump of the resin uaed to fix it.  The tang is quite rusty suggesting water has got in to the handle through the weakened resin.

Here the handles have been fixed in place using setters wax to replace the resin.  Easily reversed if there is a problem.  Perhaps an epoxy resin is a better way in modern times.  It wasn’t an option when these were made.

I now have another eight to do.

I’m sure the problem was old age in this case, but never wash this sort of cutlery in a dishwasher!

Please note I only attempt repairs if you accept my terms and conditions.
