Smile jewellery
Smile pendant Smile tree pendant Smile cufflinks

These three pieces are on sale at the Oxford University shop on the High Street in Oxford. The brief was to produce items that had an Oxford connection and one of the ideas that came to mind evolved from the fact that I have never forgotten a guide pointing to a tree in Christchurch and saying ‘if there were a Cheshire cat, then that is where it would have been’.  Recalling Alice saw the cat fade to leave just a grin lead me to the basis of the smile jewellery on sale here.

The original pieces were handmade using the Keum Boo technique to apply gold foil on to fine silver. The production versions of the left and right pieces are gold plated on sterling silver, but otherwise handmade with commercial chain and swivel cufflink findings. The 'smile in a tree' pendants are still Keum Boo applied gold on fine silver, though it is actually marked as sterling silver.
